In a down to the wire game, Guard Stephen Curry unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to carry the Golden State Warriors to a 106-95 win over the Houston Rockets.
Curry, scored 24 points, including four pivotal 3-pointers in the closing minutes, while Klay Thompson contributed 19 points, adding to the Warriors' impressive victory on Sunday night.
The Warriors built a substantial lead, at one point holding a 16-point advantage. However, the Rockets began chipping away at the lead and managed to take a 2-point lead thanks to a basket by Jalen Green midway through the fourth quarter. That's when Curry took over, sinking four 3-pointers in less than two minutes to start a 15-2 run, extending Golden State's lead to 100-89 with about three minutes left in the game.
Draymond Green made his season debut for the Warriors after missing the first two games due to a sprained left ankle. Green's return had a significant impact, as he helped stabilize the team's performance in the second half. He mentioned feeling a bit off in the first half but found his rhythm and confidence as the game progressed.
Green's return to the starting lineup led to a notable change in the Warriors' rotation. Chris Paul, a 12-time All-Star, came off the bench for the first time in his NBA career. Paul had previously started in 1,365 consecutive games, a remarkable streak that spanned his entire NBA career, including playoff games. The last time Paul did not start in a game that counted was in 2008 during the Olympics.
Paul, who checked in with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter, played a key role in the game, tallying eight points and seven assists during his 27 minutes on the court. His ability to adapt to a new role on the team showcased his selflessness and leadership.
Golden State head coach Steve Kerr commended Paul's sacrifice and its positive impact on the team's morale, setting a tone for the entire squad.
Draymond Green, though on a minutes restriction per Coach Kerr, managed to contribute significantly with four points, five rebounds, and five assists in just 21 minutes of play.
The Warriors have started the season with two road wins, marking a strong contrast to the previous season when they lost their first eight road games.
Jalen Green led the Rockets with 21 points, and Alperen Sengun added 19, but it wasn't enough to secure a win for Houston. The Rockets currently hold a 0-3 record this season.
Rockets head coach Ime Udoka praised Jae'Sean Tate for his physicality and versatility, as Tate played a crucial role in the Rockets' comeback during the third and fourth quarters. Tate's performance highlighted the importance of tenacity, focus, and attention to detail for the entire team.
Up next, the Warriors will visit New Orleans tomorrow night, while the Rockets will host Charlotte as they continue their seven-game homestand.
