On the grounds of Levi's Stadium, at which thee 49ers had not lost in a year, the Bengals emerged victorious with a commanding score of 31-17.
Quarterback Joe Burrow had a stellar performance, displaying the best of his abilities following the Week 7 bye. Burrow orchestrated two consecutive touchdown drives early in the game, setting the tone for the game. The highlight of his day was completing a career-best 19 consecutive passes. In the end, he completed 28 of 32 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. Burrow, who had been nursing a calf injury, also showcased his mobility, rushing for 43 yards during the game.
In contrast, the 49ers endured their third consecutive loss. Quarterback Brock Purdy had a challenging afternoon, recording two interceptions and a fumble. The second interception, in particular, proved to be a pivotal moment in the game. Logan Wilson's interception halted the 49ers' momentum, allowing the Bengals to increase their lead immediately after Purdy's careless throw. A single play later, Burrow connected with Ja'Marr Chase, who had a remarkable performance with 10 catches for 100 yards, for a crucial 17-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Purdy's overall performance included completing 22 of 31 passes for 365 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He also contributed 57 rushing yards but had a costly fumble. George Kittle was his primary target, hauling in nine of 11 passes for 149 yards. Despite Christian McCaffrey's efforts, including a goal-line touchdown that tied an NFL record with 17 consecutive games with a touchdown, the 49ers could not secure a win.
The Bengals' victory can be attributed to several factors. Joe Burrow's improved health post-bye week played a significant role. His efficiency and ability to read the 49ers' defense allowed the Bengals to take control. Cincinnati's defense also shone in the second half, forcing three crucial turnovers, with two interceptions proving particularly impactful.
In contrast, the 49ers seemed to lack energy, especially on offense, leading to a string of three-and-outs. Brock Purdy's turnovers and inability to contain Joe Burrow further contributed to the loss. Burrow's interceptions, in particular, turned the tide of the game in favor of the Bengals.
The game's turning point came with Purdy's back-to-back interceptions in the second half. The second interception, which would have tied the game, allowed the Bengals to rest and to extend their lead out of the 49ers reach.
The 49ers will enter their bye week and will play on November 12th against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This team has a lot to think about this week. The trade deadline approaching, so GM John Lynch needs to work the phones and try to get as many pieces as possible to turn the teams season back in the right direction. Players like Montez Sweat and Chase Young can add to the 49ers D- Line and increase their ability to get pressure. DC Steve Wilks needs to look in the mirror and re scheme this defense because they will not win giving up 300 yards every game. Lastly, Brock Purdy needs to get his confidence back and stop throwing to the other team. He has looked horrible these last 3 weeks, and we can only hope we see him come back to normal form. The 49ers will be healthy after this 2 week break, and will hope to pivot back to the Super Bowl favorites they were just 3 weeks ago.
